Meet the Editors

A Letter From the Editors of the Americas Review

It was February in London, which meant most of our days were spent in the library with books or the pub with friends and it was from those two places that the idea for this journal was born. It started as a conversation between friends – who would eventually become the co-editors writing this letter – at a pub social we had organized for students from our department. As debates raged around us on topics from the US Presidency to the character of different revolutions in Latin America, we realized the passion and vision of so many students at our department and dreamed about creating a place for them to voice those opinions and grow as writers and thinkers. With the launch of this review today, that vision became a reality.

Launching this was hard work and we could not have created the Americas Review on our own. We would like to thank all those who submitted writing as well as the faculty at the Institute of the Americas for their support.

After you have finished this letter, we encourage you to continue to the articles posted so far – which include pieces on U.S. politics, Pop Culture, and Brazilian elections. The range of article topics already available indicates a central factor of this journal: that we refuse to be narrow in our intellectual focus or in the voices we publish. While all articles are subject to stringent quality checks before publication, we strive to remain open to a wide range of topics and viewpoints. As we continue to post our first round of articles over the next month, culminating in our winter edition, readers will see pieces across a broad selection of topics concerning the Americas and from a range of writers – from undergraduates to professors.

If this journal excites you as a writer, don’t be afraid to submit your writing for our consideration. If you are a reader interested in better understanding the world we live in, who wants to hear from some of UCL’s brightest thinkers, or if you’re someone who enjoys reading interesting articles, then please explore the rest of our website. To everyone who has read this letter and is exploring what our site has to offer – we are so happy to have you.

Signed,

Christian DaSilva
